There are some misunderstandings over the nomenclature of Panchayats that were not established under any law and are referred to as Khap Panchayats in India, where the Panchayati Raj system was formed with the goals of decentralisation and democratisation. Working as a self-declared caste court, the village's lords are fully legitimate and in charge among the many caste divisions as the custodian of the owner. The caste system, gotra, and khaps all serve as mirrors for each other's identities. In the Northern Indian states of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, these three remain intertwined until now. These institutions have changed to better serve the people for whom they were designed and intended as the situation has changed. The Khap Panchayats are constantly evolving from the oral rules, which include the cases taken, roles and responsibilities, severity of punishments, and the place of women in the patriarchal culture. This research fills a gap in the literature by conducting a thorough analysis of the Khap Panchayats with the aim of determining their historical development, the range of activities they engage in, and their significance in the sociocultural context. Using a historico-analytical research method, the study traces the entire journey of Khap panchayats.
