Background: India is one of the few countries where life expectancy of women has been less than that of men till very recently. The health of Indian women is intrinsically linked to their status in society. Several reasons have been found to cause health problems of the women all over the country. Owing to the growing problems, the researcher deemed it necessary to study the “Health Status of the Rural Women: A Study in Sivaganga District, Tamilnadu” is undertaken. Materials and Methods: Sakkottai block in Sivaganga district of Tamilnadu has been taken for the present study. The researcher will select three panchayat out of 26 panchayat, on the basis of highest number of sex ratio. From each of these selected three panchayat villages, a disproportionate stratified random sample of 40 women respondent were selected so as to get a sample of 120 rural women households in Sivaganga District. Findings: More than one-third of the total respondents were in the age-group 31-40 years, majority of the women were married, belonged to Hindu religion and MBC, most of them are illiterate and their average monthly household income of Rs.12,350. Ninety-five per cent of respondents have affected any of the health problems. Age, education, type of family and type of house are the most positive significant variables to promote the health status of the rural women. Government should increase the budget allocation for rural health and sanitation programme to improve the basic health facilities in rural areas especially women households.
