Although recent studies define the assumptions that hysterectomy and sexual sterilization are associated with psychiatric morbidity, long-term psychological and social squeal is very common among women who undergo hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is an emerging trend, that is premature menopause that is menopause before the age of 40 and before the age of menopause, has been a growing concern in the field of women's health in India (Conway, 2000; Shyamla, 2005; IIPS, 2007). In India, hysterectomy has increased attention in health policy debates in the past few years, where the media reports have highlighted an unusual rush forward in the number of women undergoing a hysterectomy in many parts of the country, with a significant number of cases involving young and pre-menopausal women from low-income families.
With an increasing number of Hysterectomies, the Lambani community became the target for private clinics to make money by violating the reproductive rights of the young Lambani woman. The Private practitioner created fear about cancer and made unethical surgery without explaining the other treatment options. Due to that fear, women have undergone unwanted hysterectomies (Xavier, 2017). In this context, the current study explored the incidence of hysterectomies among the Lambani community of the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. The current study adopted a quantitative descriptive research design to understand and explore the impact of hysterectomies on women who have undergone hysterectomies below the age of 40 years. The current study found that Lambani women who have undergone unnecessary hysterectomies at a younger age (below 40) suffer from physical health issues. Findings indicated that about 37.1% of the respondents reported severe physical health issues, and 44.9% reported moderate physical health issues. Psychological well-being is poor, whereas Psychological distress was high among the study respondents.
