Maharashtra exhibits a dynamic socio-economic environment characterized by rapid
urbanization, industrial growth, and cultural diversity. These dynamic attributes contribute
to the state's allure as a destination for migrants seeking better opportunities and livelihoods.
However, the specific reasons behind women's migration to Maharashtra remain a subject of
inquiry, necessitating a closer examination of the underlying factors shaping migration
patterns.
Looking at data from both the 2001 and 2011 Indian censuses helps in understanding how
female migration patterns have changed over ten years. It lets us compare different times,
2
seeing how migration has changed, where people are moving to, and who is moving. These
census years also cover important events and policies, which help in understanding how
they affect migration. The detailed information from the census helps in understanding the
different backgrounds of migrants, and comparing data from different regions helps in
making targeted policies. Using census data also helps in studying migration over a long
time, and seeing how it changes. Overall, studying female migration using data from the
2001 and 2011 censuses gives us a better understanding of how migration works, including
trends, policies, who is moving where, and how things change over time.
