Abstract Content (not more than 300 word, should include: Introduction, Objective, Methodology, critical findings & Conclusion):
According to M Bachelet, challenges we face today are considerable. The increasing gaps in wealth and income that have accompanied global growth have deepened with the economic crisis and pushed millions of workers, especially women, into permanent informal employment (UN Women, 2007). The National Family Health survey data reveals that a lot of women still suffer from intimate partner violence (more than 30 percent as per the recent NFHS survey, 5th round, 2021). The NCRB report also shows that the rate of crime against women (number of incidents per 1 lakh population) increased from 56.5 percent in 2020 to 64.5 percent in 2021. The current paper explores multidimensional factor analysis of women’s burden of care, violence faced in home and public sphere, low labour force participation and unrecognized informal sector work affect the gender dividend in the developmental index. Lack of quality jobs and increasing wage disparity are key markers of inequality in the Indian labour market, Oxfam India’s report ‘Mind The Gap– State of Employment in India’ (published in 2019). The decline in rural jobs, transforming urban areas, unequal pay, the burden of unpaid care work, and the continuing prevalence of regressive social norms are factors underlying low women’s participation in the workforce.
Analysis-Shifting the narratives
The reason behind such situation is totally based on socio-economic factors and structural inequality caused by patriarchy. Regressive social norms and cultural practices justify violence against women and girls to use the power by men and boys.
