Abstract Content (not more than 300 word, should include: Introduction, Objective, Methodology, critical findings & Conclusion):
This study investigates impact of decision-making roles, spirituality, social participation, discrimination, functional difficulty, and selected socioeconomic factors on depression and life satisfaction among the elderly in India. “Longitudinal Ageing Study in India” (LASI) survey, which includes 30,587 elderly individuals aged 60 and above was utilized for this study, it examined depression and life satisfaction as outcome variables. Initial analyses employed univariate and bivariate methods, followed by covariance-based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) using maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) to explore the relationships between these outcomes and the underlying factors. The study underscores the positive roles of spirituality and social participation in enhancing life satisfaction and mitigating depression among the elderly. Addressing functional difficulties and discrimination is essential for improving mental health and life satisfaction. Policy interventions and community programs that enhance spiritual well-being and social engagement while reducing discrimination could substantially benefit the well-being of India’s elderly population.
