Objectives of the Institute

  • To train students from India and other countries in demography and related fields, including demographic aspects of family planning.
  • To conduct scientific research on population-related problems existing in India and other countries of the ESCAP region.
  • To collect, organize, and distribute demographic information about the populations of India and other countries.
  • To provide research, evaluation, training, consultation, and guidance services to government departments, public corporations, or private establishments, enabling them to tackle demographic problems, as deemed desirable for pursuing the objective of the society.
  • To produce competent professionals, generate and disseminate scientific knowledge, promote collaboration, and raise awareness regarding population-related issues through advocacy.
  • To undertake, organize, and facilitate study courses, conferences, lectures, and seminars and promote the aforementioned objectives.
  • To undertake and provide for the publication of journals, research papers, and books.
  • To establish and maintain libraries and information service for meeting the objectives of the society.
